Let’s face it, change is hard. We can become so complacent with our routines and the way things should work, we miss the wide open spaces God is calling us to. I remember a good friend of mine sharing this piece of advice, “Jackie, you need a change of scenery,” she said. Her voice was soft and gentle, her eyes caring. I had always looked forward to our chats in the middle of the work day. As I took the slow elevator ride to the second floor from my office to hers, I could smell the sweetness of hot tea and butter cookies waiting for me (with beautiful little tea cups and sugar cubes!) Yes, I needed a change. Life had become stagnant, routine, and in that year, kind of difficult. I knew God was getting ready to do something new, but what? As my anxiety about the future grew, her refreshing words were a confirmation and a comfort to my weary mind. For the first time, I believed, that maybe I could find a fresh start in a different place.
It was time to move forward. I’ve done all I could do here. God was answering my prayers for new adventures, and this time, I was going to be brave and do the new thing. And so, we moved from one state to another after 35+ years of living and growing in the same place. I don’t know the new thing God is calling you to, but I do know God’s plan is always better.
The thing about moving forward is you have to let go of the past and the people, places, or things that can’t go with you.
“You have to fight with all of your might, to keep moving forward toward the will of God, and not look back or be afraid, because the new thing is waiting. You need courage ” ~ Jackie Tinkler
The “new” may be hard at first, but I promise, it will be worth it. If you have prayed, received confirmation, agreement, and a “knowing” inside that God has something new for you, take a step! Go ahead and fill out that application, apply for the new job, say yes to the promotion, start that business, go all in, find new friends, book the vacation, audition for the play, sign up for the missions trip, write the book, take the art class, sing, dance or whatever it may be. God’s calling you to something new! There it is, can’t you see it?!
